What Brings You Joy?

I’m a big fan of the Christmas Season. I love everything about it! In our house the trees and decorations go up the day after Remembrance Day and nothing comes down until the kids head back to school after break.

But for some reason this year, I was quick to take everything down. It may have been a need on my part to put 2020 behind me and finalize what was a difficult and blessed year all at once. Regardless of that, within hours of everything being tidied away, I felt regretful.

I’ve been feeling rather apprehensive about 2021. Usually excited about what’s to come, this turn over of the calendar to a new year was met with doubt and uncertainty. On top of that, the events that unfolded this past week in our neighboring country, coupled with the announcement of another month in lock down has taken a toll on my positivity. I’m sure many can relate.

I’ve been asking myself, “what brings me joy?” There are in fact many things I could answer that with, but one stood out so clear to me. The joy of Christmas! The peace and comfort from the soft glow of lights while tucked under a warm blanket.

So? On the heels of those emotions, I pulled out the storage bins and put the tree back up! Crazy right? Maybe. But maybe not.

See I think it’s important to do what brings you joy. If the simple act of a Christmas tree brings joy, than why not? And I’m not really sure when I’ll take it down again. Maybe it will stay up all year. Maybe I’ll add different things to it as the seasons change. Maybe I’ll take it back down tomorrow!

What I’m trying to say is this; no matter how big or small; no matter how far fetched or crazy it may seem, give yourself permission to enjoy the things that bring you joy. There are so many things to cloud our positivity but just for now relax. Breath. And find your joy.

Blessings
April

  1. So true, April! Thank you for sharing. I took our big tree down last weekend but Sara has a smaller tree decorated with butterflies which we plan to keep up well into the spring. I hope all is well with you and your family. Hopefully things will open up soon and the girls can have an overdue playdate (and we can have a good visit)! Blessings, Betty
