If you have children, inevitably you’ve been asked the question, “who’s your favourite?” I’ve got three of my own and have been asked this question many times. And it’s funny because when you have just one, there’s no wrong answer! Of course you love that one the most. They’re the ONLY one! And than when you find out you’re expecting your second, I don’t know if you’re like me but I remember thinking, “God? How could I possibly love another? How could I share this extraordinary relationship with any other?” If you ask other mothers how they managed that question, they’ll likely respond by saying, “you just do. Your capacity to love just grows.” After having a second, I understand that. By the time the third one rolls around, you know you’re able to love large and in different ways to accommodate their needs and personalities. It’s pretty amazing!

But that leads me back to my first thought. I think it’s so funny when one of my kids asks me this question. Clearly if I say the one asking the question is my favourite, it throws the other two under the proverbial bus. And if I say one of the other two are my favourites, it would crush their little soul. My usual go-to is something like, “Oh baby, you know I can’t answer that question. I love you all in different ways and you all have different personalities. I couldn’t possibly pick one over the other!”
I wonder what God would say if we asked Him the very same question. I like to think of God as my heavenly Father. I’ve been blessed to have a loving, caring and compassionate earthly Father who I adore. But God is also someone I call Father, or Dad, or Daddy. He’s someone I desire to have that wonderful Father/Daughter experience with and I want to make Him proud by serving Him, loving Him and sharing His love with others.
Sometimes though, in our effort to show God we love Him, we can end up finding ourselves striving for His approval. We look to others around us that we feel may be more “spiritually mature” or somehow “better” at being a Christian. Playing the comparison game can cause us to feel that maybe we don’t measure up and therefore may not please God enough or maybe not receive the blessings that He wants to give.

I’m here today to tell you that you are enough. If I was to ask God today, “Hey God, am I your favourite?”, do you know what He’d say? He’d say “YES”! And if you asked the very same question, He’d say yes to you too! God adores us all! He loves us all! He is for us ALL! I’m so thankful that God holds us all in such high regard and wants us to know today and everyday that we are His perfect creation. Even with our imperfections, He walks alongside us everyday and gives us grace and hope!
Here’s what the Bible has to say about God’s love for you… He DELIGHTS in you
Zephaniah 3:17 says “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
Psalm 37:23 says “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
1 John 3:1 says “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God”

I pray that you feel the love of the Father today. You ARE His favourite and He loves you very much. Take heart and trust that God has enough capacity to love you right where you are!
Blessings,
April
